A groundbreaking ceremony in Economy lifted more than just
the spirits of area residents last Wednesday. Now that construction begins
on the Cardinal Greenway across Northern Wayne County, the project is expected
to elevate property values and fitness levels along the way.
John Zetzl of Hagerstown, treasurer of the Greenway’s
Wayne County Steering Committee, expressed gratitude to the many public officials,
volunteers and private donors who made the ceremony possible.
"Today we break ground on projects that will rehabilitate
all the (former railroad) bridges between Richmond and Losantville," he
explained. "We will complete a 12-mile gravel trail from Williamsburg
to Losantville suitable for jogging and hiking and add approximately 10 miles
of new paved trail from Williamsburg to Richmond. All told, these projects
total nearly $4 million.
"Wayne County residents and businesses have responded very
generously (for the past seven years) and we will continue to need your support
in the future in order to complete the trail." For
