Who’ll Be Western Wayne’s
Biggest Loser?
By Bob Hansen
Like recovering alcoholics, my wife and I had both admitted that we need help losing weight. So we thought we’d sign up for Biggest Loser Competition at the Golay Community Center.
But we’d also seen the TV program "The Biggest Loser" and we didn’t want to be on TV looking all sweaty and overweight next to physically perfect trainers.
I had talked with Katina Hellis a week earlier about doing a series of articles about Golay’s Biggest Loser Competition. Katina is the program director. She told me not to worry about public exposure. They protect the names of participants. For more of this story please subscribe!

Sports Stacking Tournament
Planned in March
By Janis Buhl
The 5th Annual Sports Stacking Tournament will be on Friday, March 15, at Western Wayne Elementary School. Students from all over Wayne County are invited to compete.
Annual sports stacking tournaments began in 2006 increasing in popularity and benefits to students who have mastered the art. Sport Stacking, often referred to as "a track meet for your hands," is beneficial to students as it improves reaction time, increased hand eye coordination, and teaches concentration and focus.
The program was introduced at WWES by Daryl Lane in his elementary physical education classes in 2005. Lane has grown the program continually by providing stacking cups for other schools and taking teams of students, Eagle Eye Stackers, from WWES to show others how it is done. As of 2009, more than $3,000 raised by the tournaments provided scholarships and stacking equipment to others through the Ellen M. Lane Scholarship Fund. For more of this story please subscribe!

Local Food Wagered on Colts’ Game
Fifty cases of food from Cambridge City will be going to a worthy charity as the result of Gov. Mitch Daniels’ wager over the outcome of Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts playoff game.
If the Jets won, Really Cool Foods in Cambridge City was gonna send 50 cases of some of its healthy, natural menu specialties to New Jersey, and Gov. Chris Christie will donate them to a New Jersey charitable organization. Christie offered a cake from Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken, NJ.
But since the Colts won Sunday’s game, Really Cool Foods has agreed to donate the 50 cases of food to the charity of Governor Daniels’ choice.
Council Discusses Water Project, Rates
By Jenny Pugh
Cambridge City town council members met Jan. 18, in a special public meeting to discuss the town’s proposed water project.
Even though Indiana has spent all of its 2009 SRF and ARRA monies, the state will be applying for unused monies leftover from other states. Sarah Hudson, at SRF, has encouraged Cambridge City to apply for these unused funds. There are no guarantees that the water project will receive a grant, but it is an extra opportunity for the town to apply for funds this year. For more of this story please subscribe!
