Cincinnati Enquirer Highlights
Wayne County in Travel Article
Submitted by Nancy Sartain
(Taken from article in the Cincinnati Enquirer by Kathy
Witt "Savor a Weekend Escape to Wayne County")
Whoever said too much of a good thing is not a good thing
has never been to Richmond and Wayne County, Ind.
Three chocolatiers, two wineries, one delicious spa - and
all just an hour and a half up the road - make Richmond a fun (and affordable)
weekend splurge.
Chocolate heaven
Pour House Antiques & Sweets is a happy hodge-podge
of antiques and collectibles mingled with new merchandise and all arranged
in gallery-like space opposite the fudge counter. This Cambridge City charmer,
owned by Denise and John Engle, whips up 80 pounds of fudge weekly, using recipes
created by Denise's grandfather: Amaretto chocolate, mint chocolate swirl,
chocolate caramel, chocolate peanut butter, English toffee, Nestle Crunch and
weekly surprises - many chocolate-inspired and all you-can't-eat-just-one-piece
delicious.
As its name implies, the Pour House does exactly that, pouring
a variety of brews from espresso, cappuccino and fragrant chai tea to frappes,
frozen hot chocolate and fruit smoothies.
In Richmond, Olympian Candies is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Owner Kim Mitchell churns out secret recipe toffee and her famous Dittles -
a delectable combination of pecans, caramel and milk or dark chocolate - among
dozens of other chocolates and candies, all dipped by hand.
Although once told she was "horrible in art," Mitchell
considers chocolate her artistic medium. "I'd rather be playing in chocolate
than doing anything else," says the chocolatier, who has nearly 30 years
of experience. "It's my art."
Also in Richmond is
the Ghyslain Chocolatier & Bistro. Call it Picasso
in a pastry case, for here you'll find confections ... For

Milton Town Council Meets in Special Session
The Milton Town Council met July 21 at 6:30
for a special meeting to score the bids received for the
lighting project.
Guests present were Dwight & Annette Smtih, Dan Hall
and Max Powell. After the scoring we invited our guests to give us input on
how to keep better track of town affairs. Dwight volunteered and the council
approved for him to create a spreadsheet for our town employees use.
The town was then divided up into sections for each council
member. Only four council members attend the meetings on a regular basis. One
council member has only been to three meetings. Each of the four members that
attend the meetings were given their section and they will be re-sponsible
to the residents and town affairs in that section. We are asking the residents
to attend our meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm to put
in their concerns and help suggest solutions. See below the sections and who
is responsible. If you cannot get a hold of your member you can call Donna
Powell, President 478-4545 and she will give them the message. We will be discussing
at the council concerns residents have called in. This council wants to work
for you. Your cooperative input is welcome.
