Welliver’s Smorgasbord Closing After
62 Years?

By Mary Anne Butters
The owners of Welliver’s Smorgasbord, the iconic restaurant on Hagerstown’s Main Street, will close its doors June 28, if not sooner, owners informed employees Saturday afternoon.
"We just can’t do it any more," Mary Welliver, co-owner, said Saturday after the employee meeting. "There are a number of reasons we’re closing. We just can’t fight the economy any more."
But, Sunday evening she said, "Since we put the sign out in front, (announcing the closing) we’ve had so many people express interest. We have two meetings scheduled this week. We are hoping for a miracle." For more of this story please subscribe!
