Cambridge City Town Council Meeting
by Jenny Pugh
The Cambridge City Town Council met in regular session on
Monday, June 8, at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers. Chuck Todd introduced the
town’s new attorney, Bob Bever, of BBKCC. Todd also presented the council
with a list of ongoing projects that have been transitioned to Bever. Bob Bever
said he appreciated the opportunity to serve Cambridge City and is fully committed
to this community.
Michael McDaniel, disaster recovery coordinator of the Eastern
Indiana Development District of OCRA obtained authorization to pursue $7,232
in government funding related to the storm and flood damage of June 2008. A
public hearing will be held in council chambers on Monday, June 29, at 5:30
p.m. It should be noted that this is "free money" and obtaining it
will not cost the town anything.
Joyce McCarty,
of Star Development, reported that the Neighborhood Stabilization
Project did not receive funding during the recent round of
grants. In another matter, council members voted to accept
Star Development as the grant administrator for the CDBG
homeowner repair and improvement project, should the project
receive funding. Star Dev. will not be paid unless the project
is funded. (Mark McCarty abstained from voting.) For

Really Cool Foods Merger Seen As "Win
Win" For All
By Mary Anne Butters
The Really Cool Foods Company of Cambridge City announced
a merger June 9 with Renaissance Food Group of Rancho Cordova, Calif., a move "that
should be a ‘win win’ for all of us," said Denny Burns, Wayne
County commissioner.
The local natural and organic prepared foods company is
joining hands with the California company that specializes in fresh cut fruit
and vegetables marketed under the names Garden Highway and Chef Essentials.
The two privately held companies do not release sales and
operational details. However, Commissioner Burns was informed by the local
firm, "Because Renaissance deals primarily in fruits, that adds a new
dimension that will complement the (primarily) meat and vegetable products
of Really Cool Foods." For

Dollars for Lincoln Scholars is a Success!
On June 1, a final tally of donations to the
New Day Kiwanis project "Dollars for Lincoln Scholars" showed
the true generosity of the citizens of Western-Wayne County,
$683.00 was donated to this project. The Wayne Bank & Trust
tellers collected the most donations and were treated to
lunch on Friday June 12 by the Kiwanis. But the real winners
are our deserving Lincoln High School Scholars.
New Day Kiwanis awarded $2000.00 in scholarships. The award
winners for 2009 are Zack Randall, Tyler Stegner, J. Nick Bohlander and Ben
Reece. We wish these fine young men much success in life.
A big "THANK YOU" needs to given to everyone who
made donations to this project and the assistance of the tellers at our local
banks, Wayne Bank & Trust, 1st Bank of Richmond, Main Source Bank and U.S.
Bank. We look forward to
continuing this project in 2010.
