Wayne & Union Residents Tox-A-Way
Day
The Wayne and Union Counties Solid Waste Manage-ment
District (WUR SWMD) along with the Richmond Sanitary District
are having a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day
on Saturday, June 6, 2009, from 9AM to 12 Noon at the New
Paris Pike Landfill located at 5242 New Paris Pike, Richmond,
Indiana.
WUR SWMD wishes to give residents in both counties a location
to properly dispose of the following items: all paints, thinners, solvents,
oils, aerosols, herbicides, pesticides, flashlight-type batteries and most
liquid wastes used around the house. No liquid containers larger than 5 gallons
will be accepted. Only oil will be accepted in larger containers. This is a
collection day for residents only, who live outside of the Richmond Sanitary
District, to properly dispose of household chemicals.
WE ARE NOT COLLECTING TIRES, ITEMS CONTAINING FREON, OR MEDICAL
WASTE.
Proof of residency in Wayne County or Union County is required.
The only documen-tation of residency accepted will be a current driver’s
license. There is no cost for residents bringing HHW items to participate in
this year’s event to encourage participation and prevent the illegal
dumping of these materials which can end up in the local water resources in
our counties.
For more information please contact LuAnne Holeva, Conservation
Education Coordinator at 765-966-0191 ext. 3, or leave a voice mail at 1-800-440-7536

Wayne County Treasurer Announcement
According to Indiana code, the property tax deadline in
Indiana is May 10th & Nov 10th , however this year, as
in prior year’s, our deadline has been delayed due
to State Legislature mandated changes in the new TS-1A tax
statement. This in turn requires a change to our vendor’s
software to accomo-date the mandated changes. This has put
us behind the "normal" process and we will be unable
to have a May 10th deadline this year. We are speculating
that we may have tax statements ready to mail in June with
a mid July due date, and then we would be back on track with
the Nov. 10th due date for the Fall deadline. Again this
is merely speculation on our part as far as a "Deadline
Due Date" goes, but definitely know they WILL NOT be
due on May 10th, 2009. Cathy C. Williams Chief Deputy Treasurer.
