Cambridge City Man Critically Injured
It was a rainy Wednesday evening when at approximately 6:30 p.m. Walter Snyder of Cambridge City was driving north on St. Rd. 1 north of Delaware St. when his pickup crossed the centerline, first striking a car then continuing on and hitting a truck head on.
Driver of the car which was sideswiped was Keith D. Geis of Connersville. The Geis vehicle sustained about $1,000 in damages.
Whitney Silveira, the driver of the pickup struck head on was taken to Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville and treated for a head injury.
Snyder was transported to Reid Hospital for treatment of a head trauma and multiple other injuries and then was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
According to a report from Trooper Nate Ramey, both Snyder and Silveira were wearing seatbelts which he felt helped to reduce the injuries.
Snyder remains in Intensive Care at Methodist, but according to family members, there was slight improvement Sunday.
Middle School Participating In Hoops For Hearts
Students at Lincoln Middle School have their Hoops for Heart pledge packets and may be asking you to support the American Heart Association.
On Dec. 10 and 11, a Hoops for Heart activity will be conducted in physical education classes at Lincoln Middle School.
Hoops for Heart is the middle school version of the Jump Rope for Heart program in which the elementary school participates. Lincoln Middle School students are asking for your support with pledges.
Hoops for Heart is a service of the American Heart Association to promote and teach fun, effective activities for heart-healthy living. The American Heart Association is an organization that helps with potential lifesaving research of heart and blood vessel diseases, including strokes. They support the development of educational materials that teach the importance of staying heart healthy fit.
‘We want our school and community to have the chance to help in the fight against our No. 1 and No. 3 killers in America - heart disease and stroke," said John Pattison, at the school.
This popular basketball event takes place in schools all over the country. Students will have a chance to play basketball and collect donations from their friends and family to help this cause.
Students will have a chance to earn a thank-you gift from the American Heart Association for their efforts.
Lincoln Middle School would appreciate any support and help. Check the American Heart Association Web site at americanheart.org/hoops.
State Law Requires All To Connect
Several people have asked why they are required to connect to the Milton sewage system if they have a good septic tank, according to Donna Smith-Powell, town council president.
Indiana state law requires all Milton residents and businesses to connect, unless they have a septic tank system that is less than 5 years old and has been certified by the local county health department.
Property owners who obtain an exemption will be required to connect to the sewage system after three years.
The law is contained in Indiana Code 13-26-5. It can be found on the Internet at www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title13/ar26/ch5 and in many public libraries.

Former Cambridge City Business Man Arrested in New York
Nicholas Rich, formerly of Cambridge City, was arrested Monday, in Medina, New York. He was charged with second degree criminal possession of forged instruments, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating a vehicle on a suspended registration, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of address change.
Rich, owner of Life Ambulance Service, while living in Cambridge City, is a Medina Fire Department callman and a contibuting photographer for several local newspapers. He was listed as producer for two films that were shot in Medina earlier this year.
Rich was stopped for an alleged vehicle and traffic violation. According to police, Rich then provided the officer with an insurance card that turned out to be fraudulent. The insurance charges fall under a Class D felony.
Rich told the judge he is "in-between jobs right now" and is receiving help from the government.
A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf by the judge, Lawrence Landerson. The Assistant District Attorney Katherine Bogan asked that bail be set at $10,000, based on his prior history in other states and because he is considered a flight risk.
He was remanded to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department.
