Cambridge City Public Library Receives
$500,000 Grant
Cambridge City Public Library board and staff
members are celebrating news that the community received
a $500,000 Community Focus Fund grant for renovating the
former Allen Chevrolet building on the west end of town into
a new library.
Library board president Rosalie DuGranrut said after learning
the news Sept. 10: "I was flabbergasted, and thrilled to death!"
Library director Vicki Melek said, "We are so excited
about receiving this grant! The community will benefit so much from our new
library. We are now on our way!"
The library renovation — expected to cost about $2.3
million — will be funded by the CFF grant, area contributions/fundraising,

Cambridge City Town Council Hears Water
Rate Study Report
by Jenny Pugh
The Cambridge City Town Council met in council chambers
Monday, September 14, at 5:30 p.m., with town attorney, Bob Bever, present.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted and claims payable were signed.
Police Chief Richard Roberts requested one of his officers
be paid for the time he had to spend in court during a trial. The current 2009
salary ordinance pays officers for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4
hours spent testifying in court. This particular trial lasted nearly 2 days
and the officer in question had to be on hand for 11 hours. Council voted to
pay for the additional 7 hours of the officer’s time. An amendment to
the 2010 salary ordinance will be considered; meanwhile payment for additional
court time will be brought to the council on a case by case basis, as it doesn’t
usually happen that often.
Chief Roberts extended his thanks to Winding Branch Golf
Course for the use of their golf carts during Canal Days weekend.
