BPA Plans Dinner to Raise Funds for State Competition

Business Professionals of America (BPA) competed at the district competition at Hagerstown on Jan. 16. Students at Lincoln spent long hours preparing for their events. There were many after school sessions that competitors could attend to get help and prepare themselves for district. Everyone did well on their events. For Lincoln, 33 of 41 students qualified for state competition. BPA State Competition will take place on March 7-9. Members will stay at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis. Lincoln BPA members will be hosting a fundraising dinner to go towards the cost of the trip. Rihm’s will be catering a delicious pulled pork dinner on Sunday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Tickets can be purchased from a Lincoln BPA member or from the Lincoln High School office. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. For more information, contact Bonita Klein at 478-5916.  • See Page 23 of subscription issue for individual results from district competition.

5 Arrested for Robbery On Hunnicut Road

Five people were arrested Thursday after an early morning home invasion on Hunnicut Road.
Indiana State Trooper Nate Raney pulled over a car for a possible traffic violation shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday. A call came over the police radio about a home invasion and robbery which had just occurred southwest of town.
Raney noticed a baseball bat in the back seat. He ordered the occupants out of the car and called for Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies. Subsequent investigation found a handgun that may have been thrown out of the car. Both the bat and gun are believed to have been used in the home invasion.
Arrested on charges related to the crime were Richmond residents Lee Ann James, age 20, Charles Edward Jones IV, 16, Dalton Joe Wildridge, 17, and James P. Rodefer, 37. They were taken to Wayne County Jail.
Another 16-year-old was charged as a juvenile and was taken to the Hnery County Juvenile Detention Center.
The robbery was at 16142 Hunnicut Road, about one mile southwest of Cambridge City.

Biggest Loser: 110 People Sign Up;
Teams Support Each Other

By Bob Hansen
(Second of a series)
What was a good week for the Biggest Loser Competition wasn’t a great week for my wife and me. But I’ve got new motivation and hope this week will be better.
Start with the good. People kept signing up for the Biggest Loser, and now there are 110 people going in for weekly weigh-ins, according to Ketina Hellis, program director.
And, in the first week, the 110 participants originally weighed 24,212 pounds, and lost a combined 331.5 pounds in a week.
The week started great. When my wife (and teammate) and I went in for our weigh-in, we’d lost about 5 pounds, between us. We picked up our weekly challenge -- to do four cardio workouts -- and then went to the basement weight training room.
I’ve never done weight training. So Jim Edwards, a retired Indiana State Trooper who is there nearly every day, helped me figure out how to adjust the weights and use the machines. My wife and I did at least 10 of everything. Then we rode a stationary bicycle for a few minutes.
When we left for home, we figured we would be back on Wednesday and Friday.
Then came the bad part. We didn’t make it back to the Golay Center all week. We’re both working and we both had meetings at night. And grandkids.
    We need more motivation.
So, I went over to the Golay Center by myself on Saturday and met some people in the weight room who gave me plenty of reasons to make time for exercise
.
The first was Troy Lunsford, pastor at the United Methodist Churches in Milton and Pershing. He had a heart attack on Dec. 14. The doctor told him to exercise and get healthy, and recommended walking.
But winter’s cold air isn’t good for him and so he is walking on the treadmill. Because his heart attack was so recent, he is walking on the treadmill.
"It’s wonderful that this facility is so close by," he said. "I can work out down here or go upstairs and exercise in the (Continued on page 10 of subscription issue).
